Refurbish

Mahogany Bar

This was a commissioned rebuild. Since doing the work, I have found what I think is this piece in a picture of the Eleanor Roosevelt Study in the Hyde Park residence of President Franklin Roosevelt, now owned and managed by the U.S. Park service. It is sitting behind the chairs used when President Kennedy asked Mrs. Roosevelt to endorse him in his campaign for President.

Originally the piece was a record player and radio manufactured by Scott in Chicago. I removed the electronics, hinged some panels on the front to allow access and installed sliding trays for ease of access. The piece is veneered mahogany, a crotch book matched on the front that is striking, and a plane cut on the top and sides. The piece is 48” wide, 24” deep and 40” high (dimensions are approximate).

Hanging Corner Cabinet

This was a repair and refinish for a client. The piece is either American or English from the early 1800’s. The solid mahogany case was in fairly good condition.

Most of my time was spent updating earlier repairs to make the piece serviceable. The serpentine grids in the door were in surprisingly good condition. Some of the glass was too cracked so it was replaced.
